For the Beauty Industry
I'm passionate about salon safety, stylist health and wellness, and pricing that actually reflects the value of what you do. I wrote Beyond Basics, a salon & stylist chemical safety textbook, and most of my consulting work comes down to two things: fewer, better-priced services, and safer days at the chair.
This work often pairs naturally with a new site — a menu rewrite tends to change what your service pages should even say.
Reducing a bloated service list down to a straightforward hourly cut or chemical rate, so pricing is simple for you to hold and easy for clients to understand.
Product costs for chemical services get billed separately from your hourly rate — so you're never quietly eating the cost of the color you just used, and you actually get paid more at the end of the day.
Chemical safety, ingredient literacy, and compliance — explained in plain language, not OSHA-speak.
Day-to-day workflows redesigned to cut down chemical exposure, without slowing down your chair time.

The Parlor — a safety test salon
Before I consulted on any of this, I built the thing I now teach. The Parlor was my salon in Seattle — a working shop I ran as a live safety lab, a place to completely rethink how stylists move through a day. I rewrote the protocols, redesigned the workflows, and installed ventilation and safety equipment that no other salon in the city had.
Everything got tested on real days with real clients: what actually lowers chemical exposure, what stylists will genuinely stick to, and what's just theater. What worked became the standard. What didn't got thrown out.
I closed The Parlor in October 2020, while I was recovering from COVID — and, honestly, from nearly losing my life to it. Long COVID kept me from traveling and from finishing every last protocol myself. So the pieces I couldn't test alone, I trusted to salons I'd come to know as partners — to put through their paces on real days with real clients. That work — mine and theirs — is the foundation of Beyond Basics and the consulting I do now: safer workflows, honest pricing, and plain-language chemical safety.
These days I'm also building Hair Hugger — a booking software app with safety protocols and workflows built right in, plus business workflows that keep stylists from undercharging for their work.
